2006 Ford Expedition
Mileage229,970Service Date9/11/2026Services Performed- Check engine light is not on and does not come on when the key is turned to the on position or when the engine is started, bulb might be burnt out. Engine codes: P0012 INT cam position timing over RET bank 1. P3057 Ignition coil G primary/secondary circuit fault. Cylinder 7 is missing the most according to the cylinder contribution test in the scan tool. Bank 1 cyl 1-4 passenger side, bank 2 cyl 5-8 drivers side. I checked cylinder contribution in the scan tool and saw #7 missing. Removed #7 ignition coil to check to see if it's firing. Once I put my spark tester inline with the coil and the plug the miss went away. Removed spark plug to check gap – gap is good, plug looks fairly new. Put back together and misfire on cylinder 7 is gone. Might have been a bad connection. Entire bank 1 is showing negative cylinder contribution. There is snapping and crackling coming from bank 1 timing chain area. Oil pressure is good 50-60 psi when semi-warm at idle, spec is min 15 psi at idle. 70 psi at 2000 RPM, spec is 40 psi. Need to determine if it's the chain, tensioner, guide or cam phaser. We need to start with an oil change but it's doubtful that will fix it. Diagnosing code P0012. Measured phaser actuator solenoid ohms. Spec 5-14 ohms, measured 9 ohms. Manually grounded out solenoid and engine running pitch changed (ran worse) and it was observed on the scan tool cylinder contribution dropped from -4 to -9. Cam phaser solenoid and phaser can and does work. With the snapping and crackling coming from the timing chain area, most likely its going to be a t-chain guide, tensioner, or chain itself (Jumped tooth or stretched).
- Brake fluid is black. Power steering fluid is brown. Transmission fluid is black cherry in color. Engine oil is very dark and anywhere between 2-3 qts low (only showing on bottom 1/8" on dipstick).

- Oil level good and color is golden. Coolant level is good and normal color. Brake fluid level is acceptable and golden in color. Automatic transaxle fluid is recommended to be changed every 60000 miles and then ever 30000 after that. Vehicle is at 68561 miles, would recommend a flush if it has not already been performed.
